Writing Strategist. Dominique Young, a native New Yorker now based in Maryland, joins English Hudson as a culture writer, storyteller, and educator with over a decade of experience in research, writing, and teaching. With a Ph.D. in English focused on Black Studies, popular culture, and racial justice, Dominique brings both expertise and a deep commitment to advocating for working-class Black women and girls. Her doctoral research examines Black visual and literary works from the 1990s and early 2000s, analyzing how Black women and girls confront and resist the effects of the carceral state. Dominique’s scholarship reflects her all-encompassing dedication to advancing the rights and freedom of Black people and other marginalized communities.
In addition to her academic expertise, Dominique brings a wealth of experience in grant writing and securing fellowships, presenting at academic conferences, non-profit work, and publishing.
Outside of work, Dominique is a film enthusiast who enjoys writing about cinema, spending time with her family, attending concerts, exploring nature, and honing her artistic skills.
